4x4 Hire FAQ's

Do you have any age restrictions or criteria for hiring?

Yes. We only hire and insure those between 25 and 70 years of age.


Is there a minimum period for having your license before you can hire?

Yes, all hirers must have had a full license for a minimum of three years.


Do you hire to foreigners?

Yes. We will hire to any individual with a full license issued by a member EC country.

We will also hire to any individual with a full American US Licence but require a copy of their driving licence/passport prior to their hire so that we may refer it to our insurance provider for approval. This applies to all licences outside of the EU.

Do your Retail Rates include Insurance?

Yes. Our Retail Rates include insurance, we offer standard road risk cover but this does not cover off road use.


Do you allow for your vehicles to be driven off road?

Yes we do allow for them to be driven off road however any damage caused to the vehicle is 100% your responsibility whilst driven off road at your own risk!

Our Retail Rates include insurance, we offer standard road risk cover but this does not cover off road use, any damage caused to the vehicle whilst off road is 100% your responsibility.


What is the excess on your insurance cover?

£1000.


Do you have a cancellation policy if i decide to cancel my hire arrangement?

Can I hire your vehicles on my own insurance?

Yes, if we are satisfied with the cover that your policy provides.


What identification do you require to hire a vehicle?

We require the hirers Driving License along with 2 other forms of identification such as their Passport, Building Society or Post Office Savings Book, Medical Card, Income Tax Form, Rent Book or Insurance Policy Schedule.


Do you charge by the day?

Our hire rates are calculated in 24 hour increments.


How can I make payment?

We accept all major credit and debit cards including American Express, Bank Transfers (BACS), Online Payments, cash and purchase order numbers for account customers.


Do you provide breakdown cover?

Yes all of our vehicles are fully covered and we guarantee to replace the vehicle within 24 hours if it can not be repaired on site.


Are all of your vehicles Diesel?

Yes.


Do you have a surcharge on Refuelling?

Yes typically when we have to refuel a car brought back below the fuel level that the vehicle went out with which is usually Full then there would be a minimum refuelling surcharge of £20.00+ Vat.


Do you allow pets in your vehicles?

We can cater for pets, however we will need to be given prior notice to hopefully make allowances for this (e.g putting a cover in the back of the car/ dog bed etc). Pets are only permitted in our vehicles where prior consent has been given by 4x4 Hire (Scotland) Ltd.
